Knightfall

THE BATTLE OF KING ARTHURS’ FORTRESS

When developing the 3D-rendered concept art environment for this fictional children’s film, our main focus was on creating a vivid and memorable dream world. The story revolves around a boy who fights as a pirate in his dream world against evil knights. These knights have built an impressive city within a monumental statue of King Arthur.

Our challenge was to create an imaginative yet menacing environment that puts the young pirate at the center. The city within the King Arthur statue needed to be both majestic and sinister to emphasize the power of the knights.

We began by sketching out the key scenes and developing a color concept to reflect the boy's dream world. Warm, golden tones were used to emphasize the boy's sense of adventure and courage, while cool, dark colors highlight the menace of the knights and their fortress.

King Arthur's statue is a central element of the design. For the concept piece, it was decided to use a mixture of premade and newly crafted 3D models to save time. We paid great attention to scale and detail to convey the monumental size and regal aura of the statue. Medieval architectural elements were used for the city within the statue, combined with fantastic, dreamlike details that emphasize the surreal character of the dream world. Lots of bridges span all across the statue to connect the different parts of the towers and castles.

Mr. Greenbeak, the feared pirate of the high seas, needed to embody as many classic pirate clichés as imagined by a child while maintaining a serious appearance. To achieve a more grounded look, I chose muted, natural colors for his feathers and attire. His coat is adorned with shells, reflecting the tough maritime conditions he has endured. The gold accents on his clothing and jewelry highlight his honor, pride, and esteemed position within the crew. Admired and fearless, Mr. Greenbeak is always ready to assist the young boy, rescuing him from any perilous situation.
